THE PEARLY GATES
- Gospel Music’s Most Unique Couple –

***

After moving to Nashville in 1989, Daniel Johnson achieved a modicum of success in Music City by writing songs about the woes and faith of working folks.  But, he said, in spite of this success, there was a missing element in his life.

In November, 1996, he took a trip to Rome, Italy, to participate in series of revival services at a small evangelical church.  It was there where he met a “beautiful blonde with the voice of an angel" named Teresa Valeriani.

After he returned to Nashville, they corresponded by phone and fax, communicating primarily through the “language of love.”  Valeriani visited Johnson in April, 1997, and during her visit, they decided to get married.  She returned to Nashville, and they were married October 17, 1997.

Slowly, they began to realize that God had brought them together – not only to be husband and wife – but, also, to be a ministry team.  They chose their name – The Pearly Gates – and began their ministry in 1998.

Since that time, the duo has gathered recognition and awards for excellence in their ministry.  In 2001, their first release to radio – He Left No Stone Unturned – went to No. 1 in the European Country Gospel charts.  In 2002, their second release – Heaven On My Mind – was a Top Five song in Country-Gospel music charts.  In 2002 and 2004, they were named “Duo Of The Year” in Country-Gospel music.

Each year, The Pearly Gates travel throughout the United States, performing at fairs, festivals, churches and other family venues, singing their unique brand of Gospel music and proclaiming God’s redemptive message of love, grace and forgiveness.  In addition to their personal ministry, they also serve as the President and First Lady of the Nashville-based professional music ministry organization called The United States Association Of Gospel Entertainers And Musicians (USAGEM).
